Fourty mental patients are reported to have
escaped from Mathari Mental Hospital Sunday evening prompting security
officers to hunt them down.
The facility which hosts a total of 75 mental patients reported to the police that 40 of them escaped from the facility at 8.45 pm on Sunday.
The Starehe Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Samuel Kanampiu has ordered officers to hunt them.
No cases of violence have so far been reported as a result, Mr Kanampiu said.
The Nairobi based facility is a national referral hospital for psychiatry and the main teaching psychiatric hospital.
