FAMILY OF A SUPREME COURT JUDGE ABDUCTED

 NIGERIA

Two members of the immediate family and driver of Supreme Court Judge, Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, were kidnapped on their way to Benin, the Edo State capital, on Friday night, throwing the family into confusion.

Sources in the Edo State government said the judge's wife, daughter and driver were abducted as they travelled from Abuja to Benin for the wedding of one of the judge's daughter. The names of the victims were not immediately available. The exact location of their kidnap is unclear Saturday night.
Spokesman for the Edo Police, Moses Eguavoen confirmed the incident but said his command was yet to establish the exact location where the incident took place.
Mr. Eguavoen said, "I cannot say exactly where it happened. I can't say whether it happened in the part of Edo State or the part of Ondo State. I have not been able to reach Ekiadolor and Okada Divisions to know whether it actually happened in Edo State or not. When I get the appropriate information, I shall inform you. Expect our update on the issue, at least, by Monday."
Reports however said the fully-armed kidnappers ambushed the victims near Benin and abducted them at gunpoint. That could however not be independently confirmed on Saturday night.
PREMIUM TIMES learnt no one has claimed responsibility for the incident and that the kidnappers were yet to contact the family for ransom.
