Mutula Kilonzo to be buried in Mbooni
The late Mutula Kilonzo will be buried on Thursday at his ancestral home in Mbooni, Makueni County, the family has said.
Mutula Kilonzo Jr said his father will be buried
on May 9 at his home in Woyani village, Utangwa location, Makueni County
in line with his wishes.
“That was the place he was born and in his will,
he said that is the place he would like to be laid to rest,” he said
while addressing journalists at the family law firm in Nairobi.
Mr Kilonzo was quick to dismiss reports on family wrangles regarding the Senator's final resting place.
“Those are baseless rumours. No one from the family has talked of any disagreements,” he said.
Mr Kilonzo said some of the samples obtained during the post-mortem examination would be sent abroad for testing.
“There are some samples that will be taken out of
the country so that we can get a comprehensive report while those from
the government will also carry out their investigations.
“When complete, the family will get all reports and that will determine out next course of action,” he said.
He said pathologists had explained that it may take more than six weeks before they release their findings.
“We are not in a hurry and want them to do a good
job. As the family of Mutula Kilonzo, as well as the people who voted
for him and loved him, we want to know what happened.
“We will only rest once we know the truth of the matter because it is not clear what happened,” he added.
On Wednesday, the Daily Nation
established that 52 samples of the deceased’s hair, tissue, bone and
other soft tissues were collected to establish the cause of his death.
Later, Government pathologist Johansen Oduor said all investigations would be done in Kenya.
However, according to Mr Kilonzo, samples obtained
by British pathologist Calder Ian Maddison, who was invited by the
family, will be sent out of the country.
“We are currently making arrangements to have them sent out,” he said.
The 8-hour examination on the body of the Senator,
who was found dead in his Kwa-Kyelu farm in Maanzoni last Saturday, was
carried out by a team of seven pathologists at the Lee Funeral Home in
Nairobi.
The funeral service will be held on May 8 at the Nairobi Baptist Church.
